India's two biggest food delivery platforms go head-to-head across delivery speed, food quality, pricing and customer support.
India's food delivery duopoly has been at war for a decade โ and the battlefield is customer experience. We analyzed 25,000 Zomato reviews and 25,000 Swiggy reviews to settle the debate once and for all.
Delivery speed
Zomato edges Swiggy on delivery speed across most metro cities according to reviewer mentions. 67% of Zomato reviewers mentioned on-time delivery positively versus 61% for Swiggy. However, Swiggy wins in Tier-2 cities where its logistics network is stronger.
Swiggy Instamart โ the grocery delivery arm โ has become a standalone winner. 78% of Instamart reviews are 4 or 5 stars, making it the highest-rated product in the Swiggy ecosystem.
Food quality and packaging
This is a wash. Both platforms have similar ratings for food quality and packaging โ the variance is almost entirely driven by individual restaurants, not the platform. Where platform matters is in how quickly issues are resolved when food arrives cold or incorrect.
Customer support
Swiggy wins customer support. Reviewers note faster in-app chat responses and more consistent refund processing. Zomato's support gets more complaints about generic copy-paste responses and slow refund timelines.
Subscription value
Both Zomato Gold and Swiggy One offer genuine value. Zomato Gold edges ahead for users who eat out frequently (restaurant discounts). Swiggy One is better for home delivery regulars. If you use both delivery and dining, run the numbers โ at current pricing, most users can only justify one subscription.
The verdict
For metro delivery, Zomato is marginally faster. For support, Swiggy is better. For grocery, Swiggy Instamart is unmatched. If you must choose one app โ Swiggy wins on overall customer satisfaction score (4.1 vs 3.9 when negative reviews are weighted equally with positives).
