Best OTT Platforms in India 2024: Netflix vs Prime vs JioCinema Ranked by Subscribers

Content library, streaming quality, pricing and customer support โ€” we compared India's top streaming platforms across 35,000 subscriber reviews.

India's OTT market now has over 500 million subscribers across platforms. With subscription fatigue setting in, viewers are making harder choices about which platforms to keep. We analysed 35,000 subscriber reviews to rank Netflix, Prime Video, JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar and SonyLIV on the dimensions that actually drive retention.

Content is king โ€” but catalogue depth misleads

Raw catalogue size is a misleading metric. Netflix reviews most frequently praise original content quality; Prime Video reviews praise the value-add of Prime membership (delivery + video + music); JioCinema dominates cricket and live sports reviews with near-universal satisfaction during IPL season. The platform that wins for you depends entirely on your viewing preference.

JioCinema's free IPL streaming generated the highest single-quarter review volume of any OTT platform in Indian history in 2023 โ€” and 89% of those reviews were 4 or 5 stars.

Streaming quality and technical complaints

Technical complaints โ€” buffering, resolution drops, app crashes โ€” account for 33% of all negative OTT reviews. Netflix and Prime score highest for streaming reliability. JioCinema and Hotstar both receive significant buffering complaints during live events when concurrent viewership spikes. If live sports streaming is your primary use case, JioCinema's free tier is compelling despite occasional peak-load issues.

The subscription cancellation experience

How easy it is to cancel is now a measurable driver of subscriber satisfaction and brand trust. Netflix scores highest for cancel-and-resume simplicity. Several regional platforms draw complaints for making cancellation require a customer service call โ€” a dark pattern that damages long-term trust even if it temporarily reduces churn.
